IMO there is no reason, why thunderbird should not be upgradable, as
the plugins will not break it.
in fact they do the other way around, means they are not usable any more.
We've forgotten to set a "Breaks" in time for these additional and
optional packages.
It's not easy to detect such breaking deps, I don't keep always track of
them. The next Debian version of Thunderbird will have these updated
metadata, means these too old packages will get removed if still
installed before the update of the Thunderbird package will get installed.
Depending if the higher versions of the additional packages are in the
archive and available for trixie/stable the dependency solver will
install them. But I suspect there is an option this will not happen in time.
You can then simply take the version from testing or unstable, the
packages are architecture in-depended and don't come with other deps.
