I didn't mean to suggest you had specifically endorsed a new upstream. I can briefly recap the 4 changes in the upstream versus what we would have carrying patches instead: 1. old patch from us to fix import (in trixie) -> no net source code change 2. new patch from us to allow log rotation to be implemented cleanly -> no net source code change 3. small change affecting wtmpdbd which we do not build -> no change to Debian binary 4. improved error strings -> more user-friendly error messages. Not needed but not a risk. I have no problem with reworking to ship just the first two patches instead if required - I opted for the new upstream because I thought that was cleaner and clearer.
