For the record, I filed it severity important because it was interfering with migration to testing of other packages (python-cffi, which was causing fenicsx-dolfinx to fail, which was blocking dolfinx-mpc). I would have raised it to severity serious [debci] if the problem continued longer.
In the end python-cffi was able to migrate anyway, and the blocks are now cleared. At the same time, thanks for identifying the fix for swift.
