This makes virtualbox for me quite unusable, since I loose work done in
the VM :-(

I was just looking through some reports showing crashes.
If it is of any help the code bytes from the kernel point to this location:

Unfortunately this hides all of the underlying function calls.
Therefore I guess it may be helpful if you could install
the systemd-coredump and after the next crash please add the
relevant parts of the journalctl to this bug report.
