Just a fast Idea (w/o testing): the texlive-fonts-extra just contains the LaTeX support for the fonts, not the fonts itself. I guess the fonts are in fonts-dejavu-core / fonts-dejavu-extra and the packages are needed. However I would expect that the TFM files are tl-fonts-extra....
