thanks for having a look at this. I am not using the US layout though but de-bone, so '!' one gets via '<Mod3> + p' (and '*' with '<Mod3> + o') but '<shift> + <Mod3> + KEY' are also defined key combinations, so e.g. '<shift> + !' = '<shift> + <Mod3> + p' = 'π' which is its own keycode and not the same as '<shift> + !'. Similar for '<shift> + *'. So I guess, for US layout it works out of luck and would argue, it is a problem with Claws Mail to use key bindings that do not work with non-US layout.
