I've commited a patch at https://salsa.debian.org/tille/igaelic/-/blob/debian/latest/debian/patches/utf8.patch?ref_type=heads However, I think this should be rather solved upstream via iconv -f ISO-8859-15 -t UTF-8 words -o words.new && mv words.new words As I wrote in my MR[1] its not really clear where I can find the upstream code.
