On Debian Sid this also breaks python3-slixmpp. Downgrading to
python3-pycares=4.9.0-1 fixes the issue for me.

FWIW, for python3-slixmpp it isn't fixed in that version. To me it looks
like with the version of pycares in Debian Sid (5.0.1-2) aiodns needs to
be bumped to version 4.0.
Also, if it helps, here is a simple reproducer (only for aiodns < 4.0):
