Debian's default /etc/sudoers contains the following: # Completely harmless preservation of a user preference. #Defaults:%sudo env_keep += "GREP_COLOR" Please consider shipping /etc/sudoers.d/grep_environment containing those lines. If grep uses other environment variables that are harmless to pass up to a process with elevated privileges, feel free to add those as well.
