Package: firefox-esr Version: 140.7.0esr-1 Severity: serious Setting to serious as this will have to be done for the next release anyway. And the current status does not seem clean (see below).
The firefox-esr package has just been rebuilt against libvpx12 instead of libvpx11 (140.7.0esr-1 → 140.7.0esr-1+b1). However, it still primarily recommends libavcodec61, which still depends on libvpx11 as it is no longer built by ffmpeg (it is replaced by libavcodec62): Recommends: libavcodec61 | libavcodec-extra61 | libavcodec60 | libavcodec-extra60 | libavcodec59 | libavcodec-extra59 | libavcodec58 | libavcodec-extra58 | libavcodec57 | libavcodec-extra57 | libavcodec56 | libavcodec-extra56 | libavcodec55 | libavcodec-extra55 | libavcodec54 | libavcodec-extra54 | libavcodec53 | libavcodec-extra53 So there seem to be 2 issues: 1. firefox-esr primarily recommends a package that it no longer built (libavcodec61). 2. When this package is the chosen one, this means that Firefox will use both libvpx12 (via libmozavcodec.so, if I understand correctly) and libvpx11 (via libavcodec.so.61). Couldn't this be a problem? This means that "libavcodec62 | libavcodec-extra62 |" should be added to the list, I suppose. And do the older versions of the codecs still make sense? -- Package-specific info: -- Addons package information -- System Information: Debian Release: forky/sid APT prefers unstable-debug APT policy: (500, 'unstable-debug'), (500, 'stable-updates'), (500, 'stable-security'), (500, 'stable-debug'), (500, 'proposed-updates-debug'), (500, 'unstable'), (500, 'testing'), (500, 'stable'), (1, 'experimental') Architecture: amd64 (x86_64) Kernel: Linux 6.18.8+deb14-amd64 (SMP w/16 CPU threads; PREEMPT) Locale: LANG=C.UTF-8, LC_CTYPE=C.UTF-8 (charmap=UTF-8), LANGUAGE not set Shell: /bin/sh linked to /usr/bin/dash Init: systemd (via /run/systemd/system) LSM: AppArmor: enabled Versions of packages firefox-esr depends on: ii debianutils 5.23.2 ii fontconfig 2.17.1-5 ii libasound2t64 1.2.15.3-1 ii libatk1.0-0t64 2.59.1-2 ii libc6 2.42-12 ii libcairo-gobject2 1.18.4-3 ii libcairo2 1.18.4-3 ii libdbus-1-3 1.16.2-3 ii libevent-2.1-7t64 2.1.12-stable-10+b1 ii libffi8 3.5.2-3 ii libfontconfig1 2.17.1-5 ii libfreetype6 2.14.1+dfsg-2 ii libgcc-s1 15.2.0-13 ii libgdk-pixbuf-2.0-0 2.44.5+dfsg-3 ii libglib2.0-0t64 2.87.2-3 ii libgtk-3-0t64 3.24.51-4 ii libnspr4 2:4.38.2-1 ii libnss3 2:3.120-1 ii libpango-1.0-0 1.57.0-1 ii libstdc++6 15.2.0-13 ii libvpx11 1.15.2-2 ii libx11-6 2:1.8.12-1 ii libx11-xcb1 2:1.8.12-1 ii libxcb-shm0 1.17.0-2+b1 ii libxcb1 1.17.0-2+b1 ii libxcomposite1 1:0.4.6-1 ii libxdamage1 1:1.1.7-1 ii libxext6 2:1.3.4-1+b3 ii libxfixes3 1:6.0.0-2+b4 ii libxrandr2 2:1.5.4-1+b3 ii procps 2:4.0.4-9 ii zlib1g 1:1.3.dfsg+really1.3.1-2 Versions of packages firefox-esr recommends: ii libavcodec61 7:7.1.3-1 Versions of packages firefox-esr suggests: ii fonts-lmodern 2.005-1 ii fonts-stix [otf-stix] 2.13b171+ds-1 ii libcanberra0 0.30-20 ii libgssapi-krb5-2 1.22.1-2 pn pulseaudio <none> -- no debconf information -- Vincent Lefèvre <[email protected]> - Web: <https://www.vinc17.net/> 100% accessible validated (X)HTML - Blog: <https://www.vinc17.net/blog/> Work: CR INRIA - computer arithmetic / Pascaline project (LIP, ENS-Lyon)
