And now the bug got fixed! :-) Package cups/2.4.18-1 has recently migrated to Debian testing, and I had the opportunity to test it, after unpinning systemd and upgrading it to version 260.1-1 . I can confirm that the USB printer is usable again. Thanks to everyone who was involved in investigating and in fixing this bug!
