There is also no warning to the user that the cron job (and init script) have been removed, other than these lines buried in the (massive) output during an upgrade to trixie:

emoving obsolete conffile /etc/cron.d/mdadm ...
Removing obsolete conffile /etc/cron.daily/mdadm ...
Removing obsolete conffile /etc/init.d/mdadm ...
Removing obsolete conffile /etc/init.d/mdadm-waitidle ...

It would be nice to have a more obvious warning for users of non-systemd installations that these files have been removed from the package, such as a dialog prompt, or at least a note in a /usr/share/doc/mdadm/NEWS.Debian.gz file, which can be picked up by programs like apt-listchanges to notify the user. The note could also mention that the init script has been moved to the orphan-sysvinit-scripts package.

It would also be nice if the original cron files were kept in the /usr/share/doc/mdadm/examples/ directory (perhaps along with a README file noting they are unmaintained), so non-systemd users could restore them easily if they choose to use them.

Thank you for your consideration.
