In the Bitcoin mining context, a "work" represents a block that isn’t valid yet for the network and the goal is to tweak this work until you get a valid Bitcoin block. Due to how blockchains work in general, you must have work based on the tip of the blockchain. If it’s not the case, you are going to just waste your energy because your block will never be accepted by the network. > What exactly is passed? Workers are simply computers specifically designed for mining bitcoins (also called ASICs or miners).
