ERROR: invalid byte sequence for encoding "UTF8": 0x00

We tracked this down to a physical null-byte (\x00) inside the SQL
extension script provided by the package.

File: /usr/share/postgresql/17/extension/postgis--3.5.2.sql

Location: Inside the definition string for EPSG 8796 (around the
string
"AUTHORITY["EPSG","42")

Because of the null-byte, I had major installation problems.

The null byte is not present in the package from our archive:

https://snapshot.debian.org/archive/debian/20250119T084018Z/pool/main/p/postgis/postgresql-17-postgis-3-scripts_3.5.2%2Bdfsg-1_all.deb

http://ftp.nl.debian.org/debian/pool/main/p/postgis/postgresql-17-postgis-3-scripts_3.5.2+dfsg-1_all.deb

It is a bug in the packages. If you as a package maintainer do not see action
for this correction, who else I should report this bug to?

You don't need to report this to anyone, you found a solution with the help of
a big tech service.

Kind Regards,

Bas
