It is built from source with no sbt, bootstrapped from the scala-2.12-bootstrap STARR seed (which is then dropped via self-host). It installs under /usr/share/scala-2.12 and coexists with the older scala (2.11) package. Scaladoc is a follow-on (needs scala-xml built for 2.12). .
