Hi,

while upstream is not featuring tags we can watch the development of the
code anyway to provide users with the latest code. Here is a watch file
you could use:

Version: 5

Source: https://github.com/lisp-maintainers/asdf-system-connections.git
Matching-Pattern: HEAD
Mode: git
Git-Pretty: %cd
Dversion-Mangle: s/^[0-9]+\+really//

The Dversion-Mangle is needed due to some unfortunate choice of the
current version. The latest upstream commit was done at 2016-12-23
which is identical to the current code base.

If you would choose a "new version"

   20170124+really20161223-1

the watch file would report any new upstream commit.

Kind regards
    Andreas.
