In Phosh we can work around this by adding minimal text-input 3.2 support (thus making GTK use that). I've also found another issue that could be RC: https://gitlab.gnome.org/GNOME/gtk/-/work_items/8419 which makes text-input via OSK impossible in about any app using a text field with word-completion enabled.
