Hi Trupti, thanks for your follow-up. I'll leave it up to the powerpc porters to sponsor this upload.

Hi Michael, Adrian, and all, Thank you for the context on this bug. I wanted to share why this package matters for power architectures and what I have done. Importance for PowerPC: libvpd is a direct dependency of ppc64-diag, which is the core hardware diagnostic tool for IBM Power platforms. It provides: - RTAS platform error log analysis - Hardware fault indicator management - The rtas_errd daemon for automated hardware event responses - Vital Product Data (VPD) collection via lsvpd Due to this libvpd bug, ppc64-diag has been absent from testing and trixie. This means IBM Power users on trixie have no access to these essential hardware diagnostic tools. What I have done: I have applied Helmut's patch from msg #5 and tested it on real ppc64el hardware (IBM Power10 ). Test results (upgrading libvpd 2.2.9-1+b2 -> 2.2.9-1.1): - preinst: diversion added correctly - postinst: diversion removed cleanly - /usr/lib/udev/rules.d/60-libvpd-2.2-3.rules survives upgrade - dpkg-divert --list: no stray diversion after upgrade - dpkg -l: ii 2.2.9-1.1 fully configured Salsa MR: https://salsa.debian.org/debian/libvpd/-/merge_requests/1 I am currently preparing the NMU upload. I will be filing an RFS shortly once the package is uploaded to mentors.debian.net. Please review the Salsa MR and let me know if you have any suggestions or corrections before I proceed with the upload. Thank you for your patience with this bug. The patch works correctly and the fix is ready. Thanks, Trupti
