Here are my sdl libraries:

$ dpkg-query -W|grep libsdl
libsdl-image1.2:amd64 1.2.12-14+b2
libsdl-mixer1.2:amd64 1.2.12-19+b2

libsdl1.2debian:amd64 1.2.76-1
libsdl2-2.0-0:amd64 2.32.72+ds-1
libsdl2-image-2.0-0:amd64 2.8.12+dfsg-2
libsdl3-0:amd64 3.4.16+ds-1
$

I don't see any relevant libraries in /usr/local/lib:
home:/usr/local/lib $ ls lib*
libcruft.a      libjvc.a       libmp3lame.so        libsensors.a
libtcl7.5.so.1.0   libtkx4.1.so.1.0
libctl.a        libjvc.so      libmp3lame.so.0      libsensors.so

libdmalloc.a    libjvc.so.1    libmp3lame.so.0.0.0  libsensors.so.3

libtk.sa
libjasper.la    libmp3lame.la  libreadline.a        libtcl7.5.so.1
libtkx4.1.so.1

The libsndfile library is another one not listed by ldd:

$ ldd `which gimp`|grep snd
$

or in the depends list:

home:/var/cache/apt/archives $ apt-cache depends gimp | grep snd
home:/var/cache/apt/archives $

It's in the libsdnfile1 package:

home:/usr/local/lib $ apt-file search
/usr/lib/x86_64-linux-gnu/libsndfile.so.1
libsndfile1: /usr/lib/x86_64-linux-gnu/libsndfile.so.1
libsndfile1: /usr/lib/x86_64-linux-gnu/libsndfile.so.1.0.37

...of which I have this version:

$ dpkg -l libsndfile1

libsndio6.1:amd64 1.1.0-3
libsndio7.0:amd64 1.10.0-0.2+b2

I have the latest version:

$ sudo apt-get install libsndfile1
[sudo] password for jrv:

libsndfile1 is already the newest version (1.2.2-4+b1).
libsndfile1 set to manually installed.

Do I need something different?
