Its command-line interface follows the familiar tar conventions for creating, extracting and listing archives. Archives preserve S3 user metadata in PAX extended headers and can be streamed through standard input and output. The tool supports selecting buckets and object prefixes, optional zstd compression, and renaming buckets and object keys during restoration. If S3 keys use safe relative paths without file/directory conflicts, archives can also be extracted to a local filesystem using GNU tar. With --xattrs enabled, the S3 metadata stored in PAX headers is restored as extended attributes on filesystems that support them.
