I've picked up the patch Lily sent to this bug in August, added hicolor icons for all six applications, and opened a merge request against the packaging repository:
<https://salsa.debian.org/xorg-team/app/x11-apps/-/merge_requests/4> The MR keeps Lily's .desktop files (co-authored) and adds PNG icons rendered from the classic X icon bitmaps -- clock.bit, oclock.bit and eyes.bit from the x11-apps sources, plus calculator, mailfull and xlogo64 from the xbitmaps package -- installed into the hicolor theme so the entries get their proper icons instead of generic fallbacks. Verification done: all six .desktop files pass desktop-file-validate; Icon= names and Exec= binaries were checked against the package contents; the icons use dark glyphs on light fills so they read on both light and dark themes.
