Hello Debian X team, I’d like to add some concrete build and package evidence to this report, following its reopening in January 2025.
An artifact-level review of xbacklight 1.2.3-1 found the following: * The source package includes debian/patches/manpage.patch and lists it in debian/patches/series, but I could not find a packaging step that applies it. * The official amd64 and arm64 build logs [1, 2] show the manual being generated from man/xbacklight.man without applying that patch. * The published packages checked for amd64, arm64, armel, armhf, i386, ppc64el, riscv64 and s390x all contain an identical decompressed manual. It matches the unpatched upstream manual after the build’s macro substitutions. Both "-time milliseconds" and "-steps number" are absent from the SYNOPSIS. The SHA-256 of the decompressed usr/share/man/man1/xbacklight.1.gz is: f29988ff0d624f497d9a26af8851b718785edae02b1789cd460c2140ffbfee82 I've checked the source artifacts and all eight downloaded packages against the recorded inventory hashes. This is a documentation-only omission: both options are already described in the body of the manual, and the patch changes no executable code. The existing upstream fix [3] adds the two SYNOPSIS entries and was included in upstream version 1.2.4. Do you consider adapting the upstream v1.2.4 or would you adapt the patch on v1.2.3? I’m happy to provide the per-package checksums or further details if useful or can try to adapt v1.2.4. Thank you for maintaining xbacklight on Debian Regards, Hakan Dilek [1] Official amd64 build log: https://buildd.debian.org/status/fetch.php?pkg=xbacklight&arch=amd64&ver=1.2.3-1&stamp=1725614576&raw=1 [2] Official arm64 build log: https://buildd.debian.org/status/fetch.php?pkg=xbacklight&arch=arm64&ver=1.2.3-1&stamp=1725616146&raw=1 [3] Merged upstream manual-page fix: https://gitlab.freedesktop.org/xorg/app/xbacklight/-/merge_requests/4
