Perhaps a way forward would be - minimal changes in unstable: add the special case struct offsets for ppc - try out the IPC::SharedMem approach in experimental - if /when all goes well in experimental, make an upstream PR for the IPC::SharedMem changes - hopefully switch to IPC::SharedMem in unstable too later, preferably via an upstream release of course
Sounds like a plan.I'm starting with step one: adding the ppc special casing (Edmund's patches in this bug report) and uploading to unstable.
Then we can close this RC bug, and I'm cloning it to have a place to track the next steps (using IPC::SharedMem).
