Package: notification-daemon
Version: 3.20.0-5
Severity: normal

Dear Maintainer,

[I know that notification-daemon upstram is archived (#1092972) but I
thought that might be useful to report this as a bug]

In a Debian trixie installation with task-lxde-desktop: it does install
notification-daemon but by default it does not register itself to d-bus
for on-demand activation. By default, it fails:

carles@debian:~$ notify-send "test"
GDBus.Error:org.freedesktop.DBus.Error.ServiceUnknown: The name
org.freedesktop.Notifications was not provided by any .service files

I see that dunst has some files to register itself as a notification
provider:

carles@pinux:~$ dpkg -L dunst | grep -i dbus
/usr/share/dbus-1
/usr/share/dbus-1/services
/usr/share/dbus-1/services/org.knopwob.dunst.service
carles@pinux:~$ cat /usr/share/dbus-1/services/org.knopwob.dunst.service
[D-BUS Service]
Name=org.freedesktop.Notifications
Exec=/usr/bin/dunst
SystemdService=dunst.service
carles@pinux:~$

I think that this could be done by notification-daemon as well?

After reading #814949 , Daniel Kahn Gillmor suggested the same way that
I found out of dunst. I leave this open because I think that #814949 is
more about starting notification-daemon it than registering it as a dbus
service.
