Package: hdf5 Version: 2.2.0+repack-5 Severity: normal Tags: patch Dear Maintainer,
The HDF5 2.x CMake build only generates the compiler wrappers (h5cc in src/, h5fc in fortran/src/, h5c++ in c++/src/) when it finds pkg-config (H5_HAVE_PKGCONFIG). The source package does not Build-Depend on pkgconf. In sid another build dependency currently pulls it in, so the build works. Where nothing does, configure prints -- Could NOT find PkgConfig (missing: PKG_CONFIG_EXECUTABLE) and the build fails in dh_install: dh_install: warning: hdf5-helpers missing files: usr/bin/h5fc dh_install: warning: hdf5-helpers missing files: usr/bin/h5c++ dh_install: error: missing files, aborting I hit this when building 2.2.0+repack-5 for bookworm and for Ubuntu 22.04 and 24.04 on the openSUSE Build Service (I maintain the HDF Group's packages there). The attached patch adds pkgconf to Build-Depends in debian/control and debian/control.in. With it, all three build. I am filing a separate report for the matching runtime dependency. Thanks, Scot Breitenfeld The HDF Group
