Package: tlp-pd
Version: 1.10.2-2
Severity: normal

Dear Maintainer,

The Debian package tlp-pd does not declare a dependency on libglib2.0-bin,
although TLP requires the gdbus executable provided by that package to
synchronize power profile changes with tlp-pd.

On a minimal Debian testing (forky/sid) installation, this results in an
inconsistent state between the actual TLP profile and the D-Bus ActiveProfile
property.

Steps to reproduce:

Install tlp and tlp-pd without libglib2.0-bin.

Verify that "command -v gdbus" returns no executable.

Run "tlpctl set performance".

Wait five seconds.

Run "tlpctl get" and "tlp-stat -s".

Actual result:

"tlpctl get" continues to report "balanced", while "tlp-stat -s" confirms that
the performance profile has been applied:

TLP profile = performance/AC

The system journal contains:

tlp-pd: Run detached TLP to apply profile 'performance'

Desktop power profile selectors using the org.freedesktop.UPower.PowerProfiles
D-Bus interface, including Noctalia, are also affected.

Expected result:

Both "tlpctl get" and the D-Bus ActiveProfile property should report
"performance" after the profile has been applied.

Root cause:

TLP uses the gdbus command-line utility to invoke the SyncProfile method on the
profile daemon after applying a profile. If gdbus is unavailable, this
notification cannot be delivered.

The profile is applied successfully by the TLP backend, but the daemon's
reported profile remains stale.

Verified solution:

Installing the missing package resolves the issue:

sudo apt install libglib2.0-bin

After installation, profile changes through tlpctl and the Noctalia desktop
shell work correctly. This was confirmed on the affected system.

Suggested fix:

Please add libglib2.0-bin as a runtime dependency of tlp-pd, or otherwise
ensure that the gdbus executable is available when the profile daemon is
installed.

An explicit warning or error message when gdbus is missing would also make this
failure mode significantly easier to diagnose.
