Package: ftp.debian.org Severity: normal User: [email protected] Usertags: remove X-Debbugs-Cc: [email protected] Control: affects -1 + src:squidguard
I have been looking after this package for many years now. During that time, the number of users has fallen steadily. Now the Popularity contest statistics says: Vote 86, Recent 1. This is certainly partly due to the fact that SquidGuard requires a large collection of IP addresses and URLs in order for the program to fulfil its function. However, the source for this database of addresses was shut down several years ago, so regular updates to the database have not been possible for years; maintaining it manually is practically impossible given the constant need to adapt to changing conditions on the internet. In addition, SquidGuard requires the legacy package db5.3, which has been abandoned for some time. SquidGuard had already been removed from testing in September 2025. Now I think it's time to remove this package from unstable. Joachim
