Package: linux-image-6.12.115+deb13.1-amd64 Source: linux I am reporting a possible regression affecting USB audio playback with the Steinberg UR22C audio interface. Summary With Debian kernel 6.12.115+deb13.1-amd64, the Steinberg UR22C is detected correctly by the USB subsystem and ALSA. PipeWire also recognizes the device and creates an audio sink. However, audio playback fails. Direct ALSA playback returns an I/O error (-EIO). The problem was initially observed in a VirtualBox environment and was subsequently reproduced on separate physical hardware. The same interface works under Windows 11 and also worked with a CachyOS live system. After installing and booting the Debian Trixie Backports kernel 7.2.11, the problem was resolved. The UR22C playback works with that kernel. This suggests a possible regression or compatibility issue in the 6.12 kernel series. I have not performed a kernel bisect, so I cannot identify the exact commit responsible. Actual result The device is detected correctly, but playback fails. The direct ALSA test returns: -5 Input/output error PipeWire also recognizes the interface and creates the corresponding sink, but this does not result in working audio playback. Additional observations The UR22C uses asynchronous USB audio playback with implicit feedback. The USB descriptors show: - Playback: 2 channels, 32-bit PCM - Capture: 4 channels, 32-bit PCM - Playback endpoint: 0x01 - Feedback endpoint: 0x81 (implicit feedback) The ALSA device list identifies the UR22C as card 1, device 0. The issue is not limited to a single VirtualBox installation. It was also reproduced on separate physical hardware. The interface works with Windows 11 and with a CachyOS live system. Most importantly, playback works with Debian kernel 7.2.11 from Trixie Backports on the same interface.
