Hello Fabio,I see that 1.6.2 is not yet in the "stable" branch as suggest by me. This is what this ticket is about. But the ticket is closed. Can I take this as a decision that it won't go into current "stable", or was my suggestion just overlooked? Best, Christian
Hello Christian, your suggestion was not overlooked. As I think I already explained in the past, a new upstream release cannot simply be imported into stable; at most it can go to backports.
Note also that Debian 13 (trixie) ships 1.5.5, not 1.6.1, so 1.6.2 in stable would mean bringing in the whole 1.6.x series, including its breaking changes.
In stable only targeted fixes are accepted: security fixes, and other fixes for bugs of at least "important" severity, with a minimal patch. Preparing and testing a stable update takes a lot of time and it is not guaranteed to be accepted by the stable release managers, so I would do it only for critical or relevant bugs where the fix is small and low risk.
Is there something among the 1.6.2 fixes that also affects 1.5.5 and could meet these requirements?
The acceptance criteria for stable updates are listed in the Developer's Reference:
