My guess is that this is the behaviour that was intended by the developer, that the info would be fetched from the internet when it was required, rather than just calculating the new value. I don't think this is so bad, but perhaps you would like to provide a patch that does what you would like? If not then this could be forwarded upstream to see what the developer thinks of it.
