Package: kernel-package
Version: 10.050
Severity: minor

The template "linux-image-$version/preinst/overwriting-modules-$version"
suggests:

 ...
Otherwise, I suggest you move ${modules_base}/2.6.17.6/kernel out of the way,
perhaps to ${modules_base}/2.6.17.6/kernel.old or something, and then try
 re-installing this image.

This is a poor suggestion: the old modules in
/lib/modules/2.6.17.6/kernel.old will still be found on reboot when
depmod is run, and confuse the new kernel. (For me they were found
before the new modules in /lib/modules/2.6.17.6/kernel.) The
suggestion should probably be to move the directory
${modules_base}/2.6.17.6 to ${modules_base}/2.6.17.6.old.
