Unfortunately we have any alternative for gs-esp in Debian, as far as I know. Some ppds use /usr/lib/cups/filter/pstoraster filter to print out Postscript. This command calls gs with DEVICE=cups option. Currently who has this cups device driver is only gs-esp (although there is a patch for GPL gs). If you print binary data converted other gs, it may work... But of course it is not solution.
