You wrote that knetworkmanager crashes in the subject but in your email
you simply say that the "icon is gone...reappears". If it had crashed,
it would be completely gone.

That said I don't think it's a problem of knetworkmanager. Please stop
NetworkManager (/etc/dbus-1/event.d/25NetworkManager stop) and start it
as root with "NetworkManager --no-daemon". Try to connect to the
wireless network and send me the output of NetworkManager.
