Ok, so you did not upgrade for quite some time ... hmm. Hard to track
down which change could have introduced this problem.
Anyway, I did *not* refer to the locales package (sorry for not being
explicit enough), I referred to the mozilla specific locale
package. Locales package should not be a problem (though removing it
might help). Try to remove the mozilla-locale-ru ( or whatever lang
you have installed) package only.
