This used to work in the not-so-distant past on exactly the same
hardware: Thinkpad a21m with the following DVD writer: hdd: ATAPI 24X
DVD-ROM DVD-R-RAM CD-R/RW drive, 2048kB Cache

Tried several different CD-R's from two different manufacturers.
