I can confirm this problem. It goes away while using upstream iptables 
version 1.3.5.

I would assume that the command would work if you used kernel 2.6.8 from 
Sarge on the Sid box.

I'm repeating other people there... but the iptables in Etch resp. Sid 
ought to operate with the kernel in Etch resp. Sid rather than old ones 
from the previous release. The argument that it's going to break other 
people's setup hardly stand since leaving version 1.3.3 is actually 
going to break when people reboot from the Sarge kernel to Etch kernel.

Is there any schedule on getting iptables 1.3.5 in Etch?
