Subject: Re: [Pkg-zope-developers] Bug#383098: Installing zope-common attempts to remove kernel-image-2.6.8-2-386 Date: Monday 14 August 2006 06:34 pm From: Mark Phillips <[EMAIL PROTECTED]> To: Matthias Klose <[EMAIL PROTECTED]> Matthias, My apologies - this is the first bug I have ever reported. I just used reportbug and answered the questions it asked of me (novice user). This was not meant as a joke - I need to install zope2.8, which depends on zope-common, and I ran into this problem. I do believe it is a serious problem - removing the kernel-image that is running the machine seems pretty strange. I don't know what logs you want. I just ran 'apt-get -t testing install zope-common' and the response back was that the kernel-image had to be removed in order to install zope-common. I continued through with the installation until I got to the point where I was asked if I really really wanted to hose my system by removing the kernel-image. This is what I see: hammerhead:/tmp/Zope-2.8.8-final# apt-get -t testing install zope-common Reading Package Lists... Done Building Dependency Tree... Done The following extra packages will be installed: libc6 libc6-dev libdb4.4 libncurses5 libncursesw5 libreadline4 libreadline5 libssl0.9.8 locales python2.4 python2.4-minimal readline-common tzdata Suggested packages: glibc-doc python2.4-doc python2.4-profiler The following packages will be REMOVED: initrd-tools kernel-image-2.6.8-2-386 The following NEW packages will be installed: libdb4.4 libssl0.9.8 python2.4 python2.4-minimal readline-common tzdata zope-common The following packages will be upgraded: libc6 libc6-dev libncurses5 libncursesw5 libreadline4 libreadline5 locales 7 upgraded, 7 newly installed, 2 to remove and 760 not upgraded. Need to get 0B/19.7MB of archives. After unpacking 18.8MB disk space will be freed. Do you want to continue? [Y/n] What else can I provide? I am willing to provide any information you want - please let me know what I can do to help solve this problem.
