So long as it's fixed for etch, there shouldn't be a problem.  With
the dependency being "netkit-ping | iputils-ping", there may possibly
be slight complications once the removal happens, if tools like
dselect are used instead of apt-get (though I haven't tested), so it
would be nice to have it fixed sooner rather than later.

Just rechecking the dependencies, I think

ping | iputils-ping

would be better than just iputils-ping (for both the depends and
build-depends), to allow for other packages providing the "ping"
virtual package.  The same applies to the heartbeat-2 package as well.
