Version 1.8.2 compiles and works!

I also tried to compile 1.8.1, but, using the same configure command, I get
this error:
Invalid configuration 'CPPFLAGS=-I/usr/include/X11': machine 'CPPFLAGS=' not
recognized
Trying to compile anyway fails with errors at some point.

I also tried to run configure without the 'CPPFLAGS' arg, and configure
also complains:
checking host system type... Invalid configuration
'x86_64-unknown-linux-gnu': machine 'x86_64-unknown' not recognized
