Hi! gnome-desktop-environment or gnome-utils should depend on libgnome2-perl or tasksel should somehow select it. In a default Debian Installation with tasksel selecting "Desktop Environment" obviously libgnome2-perl does not get installed. This results in debconf not being able to use the gnome-interface. Debconf even suggests installing it then.
