Hello Rob.

Thanks for reporting that, although I have no idea why it doesn't work for
you ;)

Could you please install fuse-utils once again, and then uninstall it and
paste me `grep fuse /var/lib/dpkg/statoverride` ?

Also if fusermount entry still exists there try to run 
`dpkg-statoverride --remove /usr/bin/fusermount` and paste here output.
