I believe the severity is fine, and I agree that the problem is with startpar and sysvinit. I see this problem too, when I try to enable startpar parallell booting. I suspect it might be solved by flagging scripts as interactive, but have not investigated this approach. The startpar option is quite experimental at the moment, so I appreachiate that you take the time to test it.
