Installing printconf caused this error too. 
I'm not sure, but my personal (as normal user) .cups/lpoptions affects
the behaviour of foomatic-configure, when using sudo. Moving it out of
the way everything is ok, but leaving it on place foomatic-configure
blows up.

As I think, I did nothing uncommon when calling "sudo aptitude", IMHO
normal users are really affected by this bug.
