Hi, i have seen similar things happening on my machines. Either failing external module trees or unloadable modules.
I had success in not doing a "make-kpkg modules-image" but rather giving
the --append-to-version again on that exec.
My guess was that the append-to-version was not persistant between calls
to make-kpkg in an otherwise untouched tree.
