The complete patch is not necessary and also introduces a bug. Only the
buffer overflow is IMO the problem. But then there is still the freeze
when trying to use the export function. And I don't have a fix for this
problem (and applying the "rewrite"-changes does not solve this issue).

I'm not the maintainer, but I prepared an NMU to fix this issue:
http://svn.debian.org/wsvn/debichem/unstable/easychem/debian/

We will upload this NMU soon to the 6-days queue, if the maintainer
refuses to react.
