Another Debian maintainer, Ernesto Hernández-Novich, has tried recent versions of XMMS in Sparc reproducing this problem. He advised, however, that we might initialize the audio drivers in the very same way [mpg|ogg]123 does. I'll take a look at the code but I'd very glad if someone could point out specific changes we might make.
