Enabled bitmap fonts by default via the dpkg-reconfigure and things are
OK again. However, the only difference I can see before/after the
upgrade is the symlink change from 

 30-debconf-no-bitmaps.conf -> /etc/fonts/conf.d/no-bitmaps.conf

to

30-debconf-yes-bitmaps.conf -> /etc/fonts/conf.d/yes-bitmaps.conf

All the other files remain identical in config in content.

Ho-hum. Feel free to close the bug upgrade and many thanks for
