Today I attempted to apt-get upgrade. I first started with a:

$ apt-get install gzip

Apparently, this installed 1.3.5-10sarge2.

After that, issuing an 'apt-get upgrade' resulted in:

... and apt-get stayed there forever.

To remedy the situation I had to downgrade by:
