This bug is AFAIK known for a long time. There should be several entries in the ATI Linux driver bugzilla http://ati.cchtml.com (I read several discussions at rage3d.com, where also the related bugzilla bug-numbers were mentioned). Search there [1]. @Flavio: If you find the entry, you could mark this report as forwarded.
IIRC the described issue occurred with 8.19.10, so it remained unfixed for 7 releases now. Ask ATI, when they are going to fix this _really_ annoying bug. A few workarounds are described there too.
