Notice also that Attilio mentioned that the gtk 2.10 based debconf-gtk solves
this issue, but we should keep 2.8 because of the BOOM bug, which is since
then solved i think.

From the bug log, what Attilio was talking about turned out to be
another bug...so indeed 2.10 fixing this issue is not confirmed.

About this specific bug (disappearing or fading lines), i experienced by myself during the last g-i on PPC survey that this is rarely reproducible on PPC: this makes me wonder if it's related to gdkdfb, cairodfb, dfb or what else. Anyway, this bug seems to be gone on both i386 and PPC with release of GTK 2.10.x. The only major hurdle that right now prevents us from switching to GTK 2.10.x is the BOOM bug [1]. As a workaround, i proposed removing the crashing free() call from GTK library which actually causes the crash, but this was judged a bit too dirty by loic minier as would leak some hundred bytes every time a question is displayed.

cheers

Attilio
